Morning Star

I've developed a very bad habit of taking lots of photos of my friends quilts and leaving them to languish on my phone. I love scrolling through then periodically but they won't easily be shared that way! Case in point, this sweet star quilt that Anne finished up last year using remnants of the Snow Goose that she started in 2019. I'm calling it Morning Star.

Her Snow Goose palate was centred on rich teal and gold with softer blue accents.

Its leftovers have since found their way into this cozy little lap quilt. It's amazing, all she did was strip out the golds and it has such a different look.

Using the Nine-Patch blocks that anchored the corners on Snow Goose, she created these tiny star blocks. It was a peaceful hand stitching project.

The snowy blue and white backing and tumbling snowflake panto keep everything quite soft and dreamy. 

This is just one of many quilty treasures stored on my phone. I'll make a point of catching you up on some of the others over the next little while....M

One More Sleep!

This time tomorrow we will have landed in Ottawa to spend the day at Quilt Canada (actually, 'landed' may not be the correct term - we're lucky this year in that it is a 90 minute drive from home). It's been years since I've attended - it was in Toronto - and I am getting more and more excited with each passing day. None of us (Jane, Linda, Anne or I) are taking any workshops - it's purely a 'gawking' tour.

And I have no doubt that there will be a little shopping in the Merchants Mall, too. Anne recently started pulling colours for a new quilt so she'll be looking for additions to ramp up the scrappy factor.

She's using the Snow Goose pattern from Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. but in a totally non-Christmas palette of turquoise, golds, oranges and cream.

This fabric was her jumping off point.

The more she brings together the better it gets. I picked up a few fat quarters during our travels last week and it looks like they will fit in quilte nicely. I particularly like the two little mottled little checks - very different.

It's a pretty good guess that there will be image overload in my next post or two. Bon voyage!....M

Snow Goose

Last time I showed you Roberta's Due South which reminded me of all of the Canada Geese that will be flying south soon for the winter. Well, today we're stepping into the next season with her beautiful Snow Goose.

To say that I became a little weak kneed when I saw this one would be an understatement. I had seen a block back in the spring but now the entire top is finished and it is gorgeous! Scrappy, lots of flying geese, tiny nine patches - I could go on. Right in my wheelhouse.

The reds and greens are very reminiscent of the Fig Tree colours in Fly Away Home, which I totally gravitate to, and there's a gorgeous teenie tiny paisley tucked away in that sashing. The whole thing just makes me think that I need one too!

Not surprisingly, the fabric line she used is called "Snowfall" and its by Minick & Simpson (gotta love anything by those sisters!!). There are some wovens in it too, which just really make the quilt.  














She worked on it through the winter and finished it up this spring so now she is 'waiting for the LA'er to get off of her butt and get it quilted so she can get the binding on it'. (Ahem...she would be the longarm quilter in question 😊.)

I don't have a pic of it but the binding will be a beautiful red plaid which will be so nice cut on the bias. And you know how I love my bias check bindings. Sigh.
