A Nice Little Collection

Tempting as it is to want to dive in and sew together Fly Away Home, I am trying to sew up a few projects for the Holly Bazaar and the Madonna House Gift Shop first. Hopefully my flying geese will be the carrot that I need to move the smaller projects along quickly. Happily, I now have a small little pile of success; I finished making three more bibs, so there are five ready now.

There are two pink versions...this one...

and this one.

I backed one with a pink print and the second one with this pretty blue - it is a lovely combination.

And then there is the turquoise with the tiny hearts if someone wants a stronger hit of colour. It's backed in the same turquoise.

All together they make a nice little bundle.

I've been craving something baked and chocolate lately and have had a zucchini ready to make into something for seemingly forever, so at lunch I whipped up a Chocolate Zucchini Loaf; chocolate and cinnamon are such a great combo. I split a slice with the Official Cookie Tester while it was still warm and 'OMG!' could be heard as he left the kitchen, so I guess he likes the combo too....M

Playing With Pink

I've been playing with pink of late in an effort to make a few more baby bibs, and it's been fun. No pattern or extensive planning, just playing with scraps.

I created two different patchwork panels using the same fabrics and then randomly quilted the tops to pieces of batting.

I also made a more simplified version with a last scrap of turquoise that must have come from mom's stash. They all went together quite quickly but things slowed down a fair bit when it was time to clip the curves because just about every bit of the seam line is a curve. So I prepped all three and sat in front of the PBS show on the Roosevelts to enjoy the process.

And, since the Official Cookie Tester is recuperating from a bit of recent surgery, I decided to bake him a pie - pumpkin, his favourite, and the first of the season......M

Three Little Bibs

I got to playing with a few of the scraps from Jean's Broken Dishes baby quilt and ended up making three cute little baby bibs - two are very similar, all blues, and the third is a combination of blues & greens.

Jean came to pick up her quilt yesterday so I was able to surprise her with a little extra to accompany her quilt, and she was delighted with it.

I tried a few methods of putting them together because I wanted more quilting in them. The challenge is that you can see the starts and stops along the edge of the bib with each line of quilting you add. So, for the third one I took a modified quilt-as-you-go approach and quilted the top to the batting before sewing the two pieces together. Then all I had to do was two or three rows of quilting through all layers when it was turned right side out and top stitched the edge. Much better.

The scrappy mix of colours is really sweet so I'd like to make more, maybe with pinks & yellows added in. I've been wanting to make a few items to donate to Madonna House to sell in their gift shop and have been dragging my feet at it, so these might just be the ticket....M
